History of our school
Hornsby South Began in June 1952 as an Infant's School on
the site presently occupied by Clarke Road Special School. Miss Allen was
appointed that year as the first teacher and Principal.
On 25 April 1953, the school was officially opened. 
Miss D C Twartz was appointed as Principal in 1965 and it was during this
year that the first of the brick veneer buildings was opened on the
present site. Four classrooms and a limited administration section were
opened and two more classrooms were added two years later.

In 1975 the current primary
classrooms, kindergarten rooms and library were officially opened and the
whole school moved to the present site. In 1992 facilities were extended
with the opening of the school Assembly Hall. 
The parent organization have been
responsible over the years for the construction of playgrounds and
gardens. In 1988, to celebrate the Bicentenary, they built a paved path at
the front of the school and constructed a tiered amphitheatre.

The musical life of the school was
expanded in 1991 when a school band was formed, whilst 1992 saw the
opening of the School Hall. 1994 saw the school achieve recognition for
its fine work in Environmental Education with its award-winning Rainforest
Garden. 
In 1996 a Computer Room was
established and in 1997 a structured and sequential Course in computer
education began for the students. This has been successful in developing
students' knowledge and skills about computers.

At the beginning of 1998 a newly
formed School Council began its operation. The School Council which
consists of parents, teachers, the President of the P & C and the
Principal, develop and review the policies of the school.
In the year 2000 our School Yurt was built which
is used for recreation and before and after school care.
In the year 2002 it was our schools 50th
birthday.
In 2003 our old principal Mr. Catt retired
